Rockbox: PictureFlow plugin autostarts at boot

Post by ^rooker »

[PROBLEM]
Since a few days I'm using Rockbox (an open source firmware for mp3 players) as OS for my almost 2 year old Sansa Clip+ player.
Everything's great, but all over a sudden it showed the following message for a few seconds after startup:
Database is not ready
...and then it automatically started the "PictureFlow" plugin.
hmpf. I've never configured or asked it to do so :(

[SOLUTION]
I couldn't find any setting or configuration option that I could use to disable the pictureflow autostart.
So I simply opened the rockbox configuration file and found the line:
start in screen: pictureflow
That's it! You simply have to change that option to something else.
According to the Rockbox documentation, the following values are allowed:

Code: Select all

previous, root, files, dB, wps, menu, recording, radio, bookmarks
I've set it to "WPS" in order to display the playback screen after bootup:
start in screen: wps

NOTE: Thanks to the awesomeness of Rockbox, I was able to do this completely on the player device - without using my PC to edit the config file! Wow!

Sansa Clip: Resetting the player if it's frozen

Post by ^rooker »

[PROBLEM]
A Sansa Clip Zip, usually just great, froze today :( Out of the blue.
Display black, no response to any button whatsoever.

[SOLUTION]
Thanks to SanDisk's article "Resetting a Sansa Player", I found out what to do:
Just hold the power button for at least 20 seconds. It seems like forever, so hold it longer than you might feel like. You won't get any form of feedback from the device. Release the power button and then the Sansa Clip Zip can be turned on again.
