SMBFS: "mount error: permission denied or not superuser..."

[PROBLEM]
I am trying to mount a samba/cifs share using an fstab entry to be able to mount it as a non-superuser. This used to work fine on other systems, but right now I'm getting the following error:
The user you're trying to mount it with has to be the owner of the mount point.
(Got that information from a forum entry in ubuntuforums.org)
