Hardware Router's HTTP-administration inaccessible

[PROBLEM]
When trying to configure a hardware router (e.g. netgear Model RP614), the browser cannot access its administration console, although everythings properly wired and the device replies pings.
[SOLUTION]
check your browser's proxy settings - and disable proxy usage.
Restart your browser and try again.
(it's quite common that a lot of ISPs have automatically configured your system to use their proxy)
