(RHEL 6.6) Mount CIFS fails "wrong fs type"

Post by peter_b »

[PROBLEM]
Trying to mount a CIFS share on RHEL 6.6, I got the following error message:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //storage/part2,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
(for several filesystems (e.g. nfs, cifs) you might
need a /sbin/mount.<type> helper program)
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

[SOLUTION]
Install the "cifs-utils" package:

Code: Select all

$ yum install cifs-utils
Then try again.
