SMBFS: "mount error: permission denied or not superuser..."

Post by ^rooker »

[PROBLEM]
I am trying to mount a samba/cifs share using an fstab entry to be able to mount it as a non-superuser. This used to work fine on other systems, but right now I'm getting the following error:
mount error: permission denied or not superuser and mount.cifs not installed SUID
[SOLUTION]
The user you're trying to mount it with has to be the owner of the mount point.
(Got that information from a forum entry in ubuntuforums.org)
Jumping out of an airplane is not a basic instinct. Neither is breathing underwater. But put the two together and you're traveling through space!
