Blackmagic Decklink SDI: Non-persistent settings issue

Post by peter_b »

[PROBLEM]
I'm using a Blackmagic "Decklink SDI 4k" capture card on Windows 7.
Whenever I restart the PC or logout/login again, the capture card forgot its settings :x
Very annoying...

Seems to be related to a problem Blackmagic's firmware-update tool (CheckVersionPCI.exe):
For some unknown reason the version I have stays active as process in the background (listed in TaskManager).
But according to Joshua (from Blackmagic), "CheckVersionPCI.exe should run and terminate".

[SOLUTION]
Current workaround is to disable the firmware-updater on startup.
  • Run "msconfig"
  • Select tab "Startup"
  • "CheckVersionPCI.exe" had 2 entries on my system:
    1. Blackmagic CheckVersion
    2. Blackmagic Software Updater
  • Disable them both.
  • Apply changes (Click OK or Apply).
Then reboot.
Now, the card behaves as expected.
