vsftpd: 500 OOPS: child died

Post by ^rooker »

[PROBLEM]
A connection to a vsftpd FTP server immediately returns the following error message:
500 OOPS: child died
[SOLUTION]
When userlist_enable=YES was removed from the /etc/vsftpd.conf config file, it defaults to "NO" and then the error disappeared. I haven't had the time to investigate why this option causes this error in the first place, but that's a different story.
Jumping out of an airplane is not a basic instinct. Neither is breathing underwater. But put the two together and you're traveling through space!
