Configure AON DSL modem/router type Thomson Speedtouch 546

Post by tonmaus »

The AON firmware renders a lot of functions of the webinterface useless.

Worst is that you are root without any PW protection once you enter the URL "speedtouch.lan". Assigning a PW doesn't help, neither does adding other users and changing the default user to one of these.

Second thing that doesn't work is changing the DHCP Range and the home adress of the router from the webinterface.

AON Hotline fails to support these aspects "We do not support this section of the Webinterface". Documentation of the Telnet Console is nonexisting. Official documentation from Thomson does not reflect the changes the AON firmware implies. The AON quick-start leaflet is finally total crap, as leaving out the PPOE engine of the speedtouch altogether. It's Windoze only anyhow.

So, a text-editor comes to the rescue:

To change the IP ranges:

1. Save the config from the WebInterface or via ftp.
2. Open the .ini
3. Insert the changes, best via "seek&destroy"
4. Save the .ini
5. Upload the .ini via SpeedTouch WebInterface or FTP
6. Re-initialise local DHCP leases
7. Done.

To enforce PW protected LogOn:

1. Create a user with root rights and PW (default: User=PW, you can only change afterwards, see SpeedTouch WebInterface conventions.
2. Perform steps 1-2 of above
3. search in the .ini for the section where your new user credentials are. (searchstring may be username)
4. You will see a line where there is a user with name "". Delete this line
5. Perform steps 4-5 of above.
6. Restart the Speedtouch
7. type: Speetouch.lan
8. log on with User credentials.

I will continue this, other details as remote access do neither work.

Cheers,
